Baptism

Baptism is the basis of the whole Christian life, the gateway to life in the Spirit, and the door which gives access to the other sacraments. Through Baptism we are freed from sin and reborn as children of God; we become members of Christ, are incorporated into the Church and made sharers in her mission:

"Baptism is the sacrament of regeneration through water in the word."

Baptism of your child ideally takes place within the first few months after birth, but can happen later.

We are delighted that you are seeking baptism for your child with our parish.

Baptism Schedule:

  • Baptisms are celebrated September to June on scheduled Sundays at 2:00pm. The actual dates vary each month. Upon receipt of your submitted Baptism Request you will be contacted and advised of available dates.

  • We will book baptisms on a first come basis and currently book approximately 2-3 months in advance at maximum.

  • Please note due to the size of the parish we have a large number of baptism requests and cannot always accommodate specific requests for dates.

Baptism Requirements:

  • Parents seeking baptism must be registered and practicing the faith with the parish. If parents reside outside of the boundaries of this parish they  will be required to present a letter of permission from the pastor of the parish in which they reside. If parents reside in this parish boundary they must be registered to pursue  baptism here. Parish registration guidelines are found here.

  • One parent of the child must be Baptized Roman (Latin) Catholic and must present their own Record of Baptism. Please send the proof of baptism along with the Baptism Request form. Proof of Catholic Baptism is required in order to book a baptism date.

  • Parents are required to participate in our Baptism Preparation formation prior to the Baptism of their child. Details of this program will be shared by the Pastoral Minister.

Baptism Request:

  • Parents are asked to submit a Request for Baptism form to the Pastoral Assistant, Arden Ouellette via email to aouellette@hamiltondiocese.com. Please note this is a fillable form and we ask it be submitted this way to reduce errors. Please submit your request in full, do not leave sections blank as all information is necessary in order to process the request.

  • Please enclose a Record of Catholic Baptism for one parent along with the Request form.

  • Once received parents will receive a follow up call to review the request and ensure all requirements are in order and to dicuss the Baptism Preparation.  At that time a date for baptism will be set. Please allow 1-2 weeks after sending the request for the follow up call.

God Parent Guidelines:

  • It is important to know the requirements of a godparent prior to choosing someone to fulfill this very importnat role.

  • A God Parent must be a Baptised, Confirmed and practicing Catholic, age 16 and up and cannot be a parent of the child to be baptized.

  • For more information about the criteria for God Parents please read the requirement guidlines.
